Overall appearance: Rilen has a very... interesting style. He prefers muggle clothing whenever possible, despite his magical upbringing. He finds them more comfortable and likes their look. From a Muggle's standpoint, he's just another scene kid, but he really just wears whatever he wants. Chuck Taylors are a must for him, as well as sweatshirts and novelty tees. He prefers jeans to shorts or sweatpants, but he cleans up nicely and pulls off formal attire quite well.
He has an athletic build which is undermined by his wiry stature, but take one look at him with a tight shirt and there is no longer any question. Despite his physical strength, he seems to radiate a calm, controlled demeanor, and is definitely more of a seeker than a beater. He wears an easy smile, even if he doesn't entirely mean it, and his teeth are always clean and white. Though he is confident in his stance and stride, he never takes up too much space, and it is easy to tell that he is very guarded.

Overall Personality:
Rilen has always been fairly precocious. He takes pride in his maturity and intelligence, at least regarding topics other than love. In that area, he falls quite flat. Yes, he can be a charmer, and no, it’s not uncommon for him to have several girls crushing on him, especially underclassmen. However, it is extremely hard for him to trust younger women, especially if they act less maturely than he. He’s more of a tease than a romantic. What he lacks in empathy, he more than makes up for in determination. He’s actually somewhat stubborn, and despite his willingness to learn he is unlikely to change his mind.
Rilen is coolly polite towards his acquaintances, preferring to keep his distance than get to know someone. His views tend to be a bit old-fashioned, and he doesn’t particularly like homosexuality or Muggle-born witches and wizards. He was taught to treat them as if they were inferior by his father, and though he doesn’t exactly agree with this the ideology has remained with him. Socially, he’s a bit of a loner, but makes friends more easily if they are in Slytherin or Ravenclaw. He can be standoffish when uncomfortable, and doesn’t like large crowds of strangers. However, he can form tight bonds with friends, and he’s a very good ally to have on one’s side. He even has a playful streak that comes out when he’s feeling comfortable and confident.
In terms of schooling, he’s always striven to be top of his class. He loves the feeling of accomplishment and finishing. He’s a perfectionist, which almost always works against him. His self esteem is low and he’s always trying to make himself and his work better. Rilen’s afraid of becoming unworthy, which could translate to anything in his mind, from being too fat to being too lazy to not being smart enough. Learning and reading is his passion, as he’s always trying to make himself more intelligent and know more about the world.

Family:
Father: Oliver Castor (graduated Dore School’s Felinity house in 1972)
Mother: Jenette Damone (graduated Dore School’s Baribal house in 1975)
The two met in their magical education in America, at a small magical school known as Dore School of Greater Magical Intelligence, and married after Jenette graduated. They had Rilen 3 years later, and Sestina 4 years after Rilen. Oliver is currently listed as “unemployed” but dabbles in Dark Arts with a small clan of Dark wizards, and Jenette works in the government as a lawyer. She usually wins her cases.
Sister: Sestina Castor, age 14 (4th year Slytherin)
Sestina had always been daddy’s little girl: ambitious and willful, always willing to please her father. Though she still lives with her parents in America, she attends Hogwarts with Rilen. The two rarely talk or see each other, and tensions are almost always strained between them when they do happen to meet.
Pets:
Hassle, a large, golden barn owl
Dot, a black smoke Maine coon kitten
Residence: Pre-Hogwarts, Rilen lived just outside Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. His childhood home still stands there, and his parents still live there, but he has permanently moved out. During the holidays, he lives in his own apartment, which is fully paid for and furnished by his mother. At these times, he also manages to earn part-time wages.
History:
From birth to present day, Rilen was told that he was never good enough by his father. He showed his magical capabilities early on, just like his father, who assumed it was a sign that the world should rest on his son’s shoulders. At the early age of 3, Rilen was subject to various trials in order to find his skills and talents, from Quidditch to Muggle sports to potion-brewing. However, it was at the age of 5 that Rilen started showing his talents for learning, so his father put him through a rigorous educational program that pushed the child to his mental, physical, and emotional limits. His mother was taking care of baby Sestina at that time, as well as juggling a tasking career, and had a difficult time intervening when Oliver went about yelling at his son to be better, grow stronger, man up.
Rilen, instead of resenting his father and rebelling, caved under the pressure. Instead of trying to question his father’s motives, the boy took it out on himself. He was convinced that whatever he did wasn’t good enough, and it quickly led to low self-esteem. This would lead to him being taunted and teased mercilessly by his younger sister as he grew up, even though she was much younger than him. Eventually, when he was around 9 or so, Jenette decided it was high time to get some rest and relaxation, so she took him to the first place she could think of: a library. Rilen was amazed at the sheer amount of books before him, and that was what truly sparked his passion for reading and writing.
He’d go to the library as often as possible, and soon found it was more enjoyable to read on his own time than be yelled at by his father. He met many Muggle children there, but his father forbade any friendships as soon as he found out. Oliver had extremely conservative views, and they rubbed off on Rilen. Eventually, the boy got his acceptance letter. His parents were shocked that he wasn’t invited to Dore, but they weren’t too disappointed. After all, Hogwarts is one of the finest schools a young wizard could go to. Jenette presented her son with the owl Hassle, who is currently still his post owl.
He found the freedom to do whatever he pleased invigorating. He made any sort of friends that he wanted, ranging from those who shared his passions to those who were total opposites of him. After his first year of Hogwarts, he didn’t want to go back. Rilen quickly realized the awfulness of his predicament, with his lack of support and his controlling dad, and he desperately wished for independence. He and his mother grew very close as Rilen began pushing his father and little princess Sestina away.
The next few years of Hogwarts were the best years of his life. Though he never dropped his lack of self-esteem, he found an incredible outlet for his magical abilities, and welcomed the challenges that the full-time school presented to him. He was well-liked by nearly all of his teachers, who were charmed by his enthusiasm and talent, and soon was bombarded by many of his peers. He was 13 when he first heard of Harry Potter: though Harry was a household name in Great Britain and most of Europe, his fame didn’t exactly swamp America. The fact that Rilen was older than such a famous person made him feel a bit better.
When he was a 4th-year, he met his first crush, a 7th-year Hufflepuff. She was very pretty, but in the end she broke his heart. He’d been so convinced that he was in love with her and wanted to marry her. Too bad he caught her snogging her boyfriend the night he was to confess his undying affections. Then began his tumultuous journey with women, and by the middle of his 5th year, he’d all but given up on finding the perfect girl. Love didn’t come to him readily, so he took it out on anyone who had a crush on him.
Now it is his 7th year, and he’s hoping things will look up. Last summer, he finally broke free of the high-tension atmosphere of his home and established a flat in Diagon Alley. His goals for his last year of Hogwarts are to gain some social skills while keeping his skills up, and become almost as well-known about the school as the famous Harry Potter himself.

Note: this is a very old sample. VERY old. I write much better than this. Also, any references to other characters should be disregarded considering it was the middle of an action scene. Trust me, I can roleplay.
Dokuga mentally sighed in relief. Koh... she thought as she continued at her pace, occasionally glancing back at her two charges. At least he's gone for a little while... Tianli, she had to admit, was probably stronger and faster and a better fighter than she was. But that mouth of his, always constantly running... It would get him into serious trouble someday. Dokuga didn't want it to be today of all days, considering she had two Mothguaith to protect.
After several minutes of brisk walking, however, Dokuga was getting a bit unnerved. Tianli hadn't returned, and it was as silent as the streets of a port would ever be, which meant no sign of their pursuers. As much as she didn't miss his motor mouth, at least he was another able-bodied warrior. Dokuga doubted Vora or Cale had any experience whatsoever with real combat.... And the Galgori absolutely hated ambushes and sudden attacks; she was great at initiating them, but terrible at retaliating when they were against her.
Finally, she was aware of Cale talking. Her heart gave a little burst of relief, but even that vanished in half of a second when she heard the fire guard's voice. She faced him, ever-so-slightly shifting so she was between Vora and the guard. He continued talking as if he didn't notice anything... No... He did see something. Even as he trailed off his eyes lingered on Dokuga's short stature. She could see them widen in recognition, and her fingers twitched involuntarily, ready to summon a throwing needle or something. She even noted how his grip tightened on his spear.
And then... it was over. Cale, the man who she'd thought was boring and lifeless, had struck the spear's point to the ground and held it there. His mind was obviously racing - the lie he wove was like poisoning a stream, as it was so fluid and seamless you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. There was only that brief hesitation towards the beginning where he faltered. But Dokuga was stunned. Cale, if he used the right words, could be an excellent manipulative embassador. In fact, he started a minor scene, swaying the passing audience to his will.
