Zelda absolutely loved Hogsmeade weekends! To her, it was a specified time for her to shop. She adored shopping! Scrivenshaft's was definitely one of her favorite places to go. All of those lovely quills! It was rare that she would actually buy a quill from that store, though, because while they were very pretty and the staff were excellent, they were also very expensive. Zelda loved to shop, but she knew what was a reasonable price and what wasn't. Her next favorite was Zonko's. Oh, Zonko's! While Zelda appeared to be a very respectable and mannerly young girl, she really loved all kinds of pranks. So what if she got in trouble? And last, but not least was Madam Puddifoot's. She knew the owner quite well, so she went there very often. Oh, Abigail was so eccentric, it was entertaining to watch.
However, this Hogsmeade weekend, she was in none of those places. She was stuck in line at the post office in an attempt to mail a letter home. Zelda had given up trying to keep in contact with her Squib sister because she had developed a negative feeling towards everything magical, including her family. But, because of this, Zelda had become increasingly close with her brother and her parents. So, perhaps bad things did happen for a reason.
Sure, Zelda could have used a school owl, but she really didn't want to go to the owlery. It was honestly disgusting and it revolted her to even step inside. Plus, she had included two letters in her package: one for her parents and one for her older brother. "Oh, why does this line have to be so long!" she said, frustrated at how long she had been waiting. She looked head of her and saw a slightly familiar boy. Tapping him on the shoulder, she engaged him in conversation,"Isn't this line ridiculous? How long have you been waiting?"

So here's the story.
That morning, the morning he wanted to head over to the Hog's Head, he got an owl. He'd been expecting one from home, but this was from a different owl. It was from the Hogsmeade Post Office, stating that there was a package waiting for him. The owl carrying it seemed quite disoriented, apparently, and was in no state to fly for some time. Rilen hadn't exactly been too surprised. Michelle was very old, and flying across the ocean would be awfully taxing. Hassle, his own pretty barn owl, was perfectly fit to make the trip, Rilen hadn't sent anything over in a while, so she was still at Hogwarts.
So, instead of getting a nice firewhiskey, he was forced to make the ten minute walk out to the post office. He was glad the roof was covered in snow, because there were owls flocking in and out of a vent in the roof. And where there are owls, there is owl shit. Everywhere. He wouldn't wanna be the guy who had to clean all of it up. Rilen could only hope he made a freaking huge salary, otherwise it wasn't worth it at all.
As he was walking through the slush on the cobblestone street up to the post office, he realized that he could have probably bought the firewhiskey, and carried it with him on the way up. Unfortunately, he was practically already there, and it wouldn't be worth it to go back. As it was, he noted the bustling activity of the little building and figured he may as well get there as soon as possible.
Thankfully, the line moved somewhat quickly, so he wasn't stuck outside, but once he was inside, he could hardly breathe. At least he wasn't in an awful mood today. If he had been, he probably would have given up on the whole venture entirely.
He'd been in line for probably no more than five minutes when he heard a voice behind him. "Oh, why does this line have to be so long?" it said. The voice was feminine, and young. It reminded him so much of Rilen's sister that he felt a shudder fight its way down his back. Then there was a tap on his shoulder, polite but impatiently so. He turned, wondering who it could be.
It was an extremely small girl... Lord, was she short. He was nearly a foot taller than her, and he literally had to look down at her. Her eyes were wide with... what was it, excitement? No, anticipation would be a better word. But her enthusiasm was so surprising, that he instinctively smiled. "Isn't this line rediculous? How long have you been waiting?"
Was she being serious? He could totally tell that she was, and it made him grin. She was a cute girl, he had to give her that. She looked somewhat familiar. Yes, he'd seen her in the Great Hall, perhaps... Definitely. Maybe she knew his sister? Maybe not. They looked about the same age. "Not too long, but I don't think I'll ever get through this crowd." He gestured to the mass of bodies in front of them. Perhaps there was some order to the line, but he couldn't make sense of it. "I'm kind of afraid to get lost, to be honest..."
He was trying to joke around with her, though he wasn't sure if she would find it humorous. He hadn't exactly had too much human contact other than with teachers lately, and this girl was definitely much younger than him. He noted the packages in her arms. Why didn't she just mail them herself? But, he thought again, maybe she didn't have her own owl. He could respect that.

Zelda was largely an impatient person and it was definitely showing in this situation. Really, why did it take people so long to get their packages? She wanted to get her packages sent off and get out of the post office, so she could head over to Madam Puddifoot's to visit with Abigail, the owner. At least she didn't have to sneak down here in the after hour time to get these things mailed off. She knew her family really appreciated her keeping in contact with them, which almost the only reason she did it, besides the fact that she really did just want to keep in contact with them and she wanted to know what was going on in their lives. Especially her father...she worried about him quite a lot.
"I know the feeling," said Zelda, laughing slightly. She looked past the very tall boy in front of her to see what was happening at the counter. Scoffing, she said,"Well, that's why this is taking so long!" The person at the beginning of the line, there was a very hefty, middle aged looking woman that was arguing with the postal room attendant. "No, no! These packages need to go together, they need to get there at the same time, you incompetent fool!" she said, angrily.
Zelda rolled her eyes at the woman. There was a way to treat the staff of places and that was certainly not it. Zelda had never really worked, but it was only common sense to treat people with respect, no matter what their job was. She may be stuck up, but for the most part, she knew how to treat people.
A small laugh came from Zelda's mouth when she heard the boy's next comment. "Oh, I don't blame you! The poor staff, can you imagine how stressful it must be to work here? And they obviously aren't treated very well," she said, motioning to the woman at the beginning of the line. "She had better hush, or I'm going to go up there," she said, crossing her arms.
