There were only two casualties the night of the final battle Voldemort and Harry, who were both killed as a result of their spells backfiring on each other. When humans die it is the job of Lucifer's children, The Grim Pack, (so named because they must transform into big black dogs in order to enter the mortal world) to bring the souls of the deceased (whether good or bad) to the underworld. Once there then Lucifer sends the bad souls to Tartarus and the good souls to Elysium... or at least he is supposed to. You see when Lucifer was originally created by Zeus (to take over the underworld because the gods and goddesses were disappearing thanks to the decline of human belief in the Greek pantheon) he was supposed be objective. However, Zeus made a mistake in Lucifer's creation by accidentally making Lucifer cruel and attracted to power. Lately, he has begun to stray from Zeus's original instructions by putting those he thought powerful in Elysium and those he thought weak in Tartarus. He wanted even to put Harry in Tartarus because he thought being willing to sacrifice yourself to save those you love was a weakness. Daria (the youngest daughter and the grim pack member assigned to guide Harry to the afterlife) refused to allow Harry to suffer in Tartarus when he sacrificed his life to save the Wizarding World so she begged Lucifer to reconsider. Unlike the rest of her siblings she and her brother Garret were born with kind and sympathetic hearts. Lucifer and Daria made a compromise that Harry would not spend his after life in Tartarus but he could not be in Elysium either. If a human soul does not go to either Elysium or Tartarus then they can be a servant to the Grim Pack member who requests them. So Harry became Daria's servant and was given permission to visit his parents and Sirius in Elysium once and a while (so long as he was out by midnight). However, Lucifer (impressed by Voldemort's show of power) has made Voldemort his adviser and may consider giving Voldemort a second chance at life. If that happens Daria knows the world will be in big trouble and this time Harry Potter would not be there to get them out of it.
