Annalina took in her surroundings, letting her mind wander. She spotted the giant squid momentarily surfacing from the water before sinking once more into the lake's murky depths. She stared off at nothing, her random thoughts running through her head quickly. What exactly is pure-blood mania about? We're all the same here. Why does Professor Snape always look like he hasn't bathed since he was born? What is up with Professor Moody's eye anyway? It's creepy. Were a few of the thoughts going through her mind. She clutched her Advanced Potions Making book to her chest, breathing in the fresh air. It was a rather spectacular day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and you could clearly hear the birds singing. It was a great day for a walk, to be frank.
She got an overwhelming urge to jump into the lake, and plunge deep down into it, just to take a swim. She knew that wouldn't be tolerated, though. Not by the Professors, nor by the giant squid. She settled for taking a seat by the water's edge, placing her fingertips in and running them through the water. It felt amazing. She closed her eyes, enjoying the feel of the cool water on her fingertips. She was worried about her Potions assignment mostly. She couldn't get it out of her mind. Weren't Ravenclaws supposed to be exceptionally well at any type of school? Well, she wasn't horrible. But she wasn't amazing either. Professor Slughorn was a much better teacher than Professor Snape, though. So she was going to be thankful for what little she had.
Amortentia. Honestly? It was frightening for Annalina to realise that tons of girls at this school would learn how to create that potion. Any attractive male in the school would have to watch his back. Maybe even some of the less attractive males would have to watch their back. You could never tell with those desperate girls. Either way, it wasn't very safe. But, it was what she needed to study about. That's why she was out here. She didn't study very well cooped up inside the common room. She did much better when she had a quiet place to think. Though the grounds wasn't a much better place to study, but still had a much more peaceful quality and atmosphere then the common room. She sighed, opening her Potions book, and beginning to read. --------------------- Tagged: Open! Words: 419!

The Ravenclaw common room was quiet that morning when Claude woke up and ventured down, dressed in some muggle clothing her mother had sent. Almost no one was even there, and the few that were had their heads bent over books or playing wizard chess. She yawned, covering her mouth politely, as she made her way over to one of the windows that decorated the tower. The sky was bright and blue, not a cloud in sight. She smiled as the sun warmed her skin. Today, she decided, she wouldn’t go to the library and read. Today was perfect for being outside and relaxing in the sun.
Claude ran back to her room to grab a thin jacket and her messenger bag, filled only with two texts, a novel, some parchment, and half a dozen quills with an ink bottle. She swung her bag onto her normal shoulder, noticing the difference in weight right away, before she walked back to the common room and out the door... not before throwing a ‘White Knight G4’ over her shoulder at the pair playing chess.
Once free of the tower, she skipped through the halls and down many staircases before she found grass underfoot. “It’s so beautiful out! Bijoux, you simply must be around her somewhere! How could you not? You’ve been stuck in the Owlery for almost a week already and Indian Summer has finally hit!”[/i] She called out into the warm flowing air as she twirled on the spot. As she waited for her bird to come to her, she knew he would once he was finished pulling whatever act he was probably doing, she ventured around the grounds of Hogwarts, never straying too close to the ‘forbidden’ areas.
Bijoux finally found his master just paces away from the shoreline of the Black Lake and took roost in her hair. “Bad girl! Bad girl!”[/i] The parrot’s squawking voice rang out as he flapped his wings against her hair.
Claude swatted at the stupid bird, knocking him out of her hair, before grabbing his feet and placing him on her shoulder. Immediately, he opened his beak and was nibbling softly at her earlobe. “Bijoux,”[/i] she began in a stern voice. “Manners.”[/i]
The odd, yet familiar, sensation left her ear as Bijoux stretched his green wings and took flight once more. The French girl watched as he flew, admiring the grace he held within his natural element. Well, until he decided to go roost in someone else’s hair.

Annalina had drifted off into somewhat of a daydream where she was head girl, and everyone gave her respect. Even a few Slytherins gave her the proper respects. But that's what reminded her that it was a dream. What Slytherin in their right mind would give a blood traitor respect? It wasn't possible, even in an alternate universe. She sighed deeply, wishing things could be different, but knowing fully that with the circumstances placed upon a wizard's life, it could never be. No matter how sad it was.
She stared off across the lake, watching the ripples that were caused by the wind blowing across the water, and the giant squid surfacing slightly for just a moment before retreating back into the black and murky depths of the water. She wondered what it would be like if she had jumped into the water. Whether or not the day was gorgeous, it was still rather chilly. So of course the water would be freezing. She'd probably regret jumping in the second after doing so. But, oh how fun that would be, right? She gave a tiny smile, thinking further on the thoughts she had just had.
Suddenly, her thoughts were broken by something on her head. It felt like it was digging into her scalp. She gave a confused look, and reached up on her head to feel what it was. She felt something soft, and when she'd touched it a loud squawking noise came from it. She realised that a bird was on her head, and without thinking, she let out a scream. It wasn't that she was afraid of birds, but it had given her a bit of a shock. She immediately stood up, and saw the bird fly back onto the shoulder of girl whom Annalina assumed was the owner. She walked up to her slowly.
"I assume this is your bird?" She asked, her voice still a little shaky from just having screamed. Her head was kind of tender as well from just having it dug into by bird talons, but that was beside the point. "I'm sorry I screamed. It, uh, didn't scare me. It just shocked me." Annalina gave her a wide smile. Well, the girl was here, might as well get to know her a little better. "Um, what's your bird's name?" She asked, trying to make a small conversation with the girl before her.

Claude barely had time to think before the girl had let out a blood-curling scream and the green parrot was swatted out of her hair and was sent flying back to the safety of her shoulder. The French girl saw a ting of red in her vision as she turned to the culprit. Bijoux was back to nipping on her ear, the only thing betraying how he felt was the harsh grip of his talons against her jacket. The scream died and she took a few steps closer to the girl, hoping that she wouldn’t lash out and hurt either the stupid bird or herself.
“Are you alright?” She asked, her French accent thicker than normal from the accelerated speed of her heart. “I am so sorry! Bijoux not mean harm, he is an idiot.”
The girl got up and walked over, calmly; very strange for someone who just let out a scream that would put the prisoners of Askaban to shame. Bijoux’s nipping became bites and Claude automatically reached up and grabbed the stupid bird’s head, pulling it away from her now red ear.
“Apologize Bijoux! You are absolutely horrible for freaking out this girl, and for biting my ear. You know better.”[/i] Her voice was low and deadly, and if parrot’s could swallow there would have been an audible gulp.
He bounced up and down, his head cocked so that he could look at the girl. “Bijoux bad. Bijoux bad.”[/i] He parroted away before spreading his wings and flying away. For having a small brain, the parrot knew when he was going to get into major trouble and therefore fled.
“Ah, oui. Bijoux is my bird.” Claude answered once the green bird had gone. “I am sorry for that. He is very good some days.” She smiled, the girl was calm so she had no need to worry now. Extending her hand, she introduced herself. “Bonjour, I am Claude Laroche.”

Annalina watched as the bird sat on her shoulder, calling itself 'bad'. It was pretty amusing, so Annalina let out a giggle. Suddenly, the bird flew away, and Annalina found herself following the creature as it did so. She found herself momentarily wishing she could fly. How amazing would that be, really? To be able to just take off and fly on a whim? It would be wonderful, and very amazing. That is what it would be. She went of in a kind of daydream where she was flying above the lake, feeling the wind whip through her hair; how fun.
Annalina listened as the girl told her that the bird, that was now known to her as Bijoux, did indeed belong to her. Annalina shrugged when the girl apologized for the behavior of said bird. Birds aren't going to think twice about landing on someone's head, so Annalina told her. "That's alright. No harm done. He just came as a surprise, that's all. Nothing to worry about." She smiled at girl, taking her hand that she had offered as she introduced herself. Obviously this girl was French, being that she'd been speaking in French and just told Annalina her name, and it was definitely a French name.
"Annalina Quincy, and I figure it's always wise to get this out of the way; Ravenclaw, sixth year." She gave an amused grin. "That is, if you couldn't tell by uniform." She said, motioning down to her robes. She'd had many a lovely conversation with a Slytherin, and when they figured out that she was in a Ravenclaw and a blood-traitor, they'd leave as soon as you could say disapperate. But that had led Annalina to believe that even Slytherins can be kind, if only to their own sort of folk

“Ravenclaw?” Claude repeated just to make sure that she wasn’t going crazy, then double checked by looking at the color of her uniform tie. For being a curious, generally rule following, bookworm, she still hadn’t made friends with others in her house. She sent a huge smile to Annalina and jumped over the extra couple feet to hug the girl. “I am Ravenclaw aussi! Fifth year.” She leaned back, her arms still around the girl. “It is good to meet you.” After another tight squeeze, she finally let her victim go and took a step back.
“Ah, sorry.” She said sheepishly, remembering how Harry Potter had reacted to being hugged so many times by her. At least he was getting used to the contact and sometimes Claude would actually remember to keep the hugging to a minimum. “I am still not sure with hugs in England. My one friend not like them very much, but he still lets me.”
The book in the girl’s hands suddenly stood out and the French girl twisted her head and body until she could read the cover. Advanced Potions, defiantly a text for the sixth years. “What you think of Professor Slughorn?” Claude asked as the untwisted herself and hoisted her messenger bag back to its proper resting spot. “I think he is very nice. Not like Professor Snape at all. I don’t think I could take potions if he teach me. He is very scary.” She commented, remembering that before this year, Snape had been the potions teacher. But now that Slughorn was back and the school was in need of a DADA teacher, the ‘greasy git’ had rose to the position with his regular scowling attitude. The girl couldn’t help but wonder if he had ever smiled, washed his hair, or even had a funny bone located somewhere in his body.

Annalina's eyes grew wide as the girl threw her arms around her and hugged her. She wasn't used to that, but she assumed it was just part of the girl's ways at home. She now knew that this girl was also a Ravenclaw, but a year younger than herself. "Great to meet you too." Annalina sputtered out as much as she could with the younger squeezing her. Finally she had let her go, and apologized to her. "It's alright." She told her, giving her a reassuring smile. "No harm done. Don't worry about it."
Annalina watched the girl look over at the book she was holding, and her eyes followed the girl's. "Well, I think he is a very good teacher. Even though Snape was better at Potions, I still like Slughorn better, simply because he is more kind then Snape could ever hope to be." She nodded curtly. Snape was horrible to everyone, and not many people knew why he acted that way. But Annalina figured that something bad had happened to him in his past to make him act this way.
"He is very scary. Plus, he doesn't seem even like children. So why have a job teaching at Hogwarts? Honestly. But oh well. We must go on." She said, smirking at her self "It is required that I take Potions to be an Auror. If I hadn't wanted to be one for so long, I would have never gone on taking Potions. But, it was necessary. It's not really my best subject." She said, sighing deeply and wishing it wasn't that way. Neither having to take it, nor it not being her greatest subject. It was embarrassing for a Ravenclaw to do the work like she does in Potions. But still, she managed to get by with a passing, and just as equally outstanding grade, if she did say so herself.

Claude was glad that Annalina hadn’t rebuked her or stiffened in response to her friendly nature. Sure she was a shy girl, but as long as the ice between herself and a stranger had been broken then it was a free for all. Thanks to Bijoux and his bird brained stupidity, the ice between the two girls had been broken before they had met properly.
However, when she mentioned that the ‘overgrown bat’ was a better potions teacher than the current one, the French girl was thrown into confusion once more. Headmaster Dumbledore didn’t seem to be the type to replace a subject’s teacher for one of lesser value, in the educational value that is. Thankfully Annalina continued with her explanation of not only why she disliked Snape, but her honest reason as to the fact that she preferred Slughorn simply because he was kinder and his classes easier. For Claude it was understandable, maybe not in the potions sense, but defiantly in the divination and magical history. Not that she had anything against the ghostly Professor Binns, just that he needed to learn how to talk without his monotone voice.
“Yes. He is not good with children, maybe he wants to make sure we are ready for our lives. But an Auror! That’s amazing!” Claude added, changing the subject. “I do not have dreams that big. Maybe I come back one day and take Professor Flitwick’s place. I am very good at Charms.” She said proudly. “I want to be a master, Order of Merlin, before I am 25.”
Order of Merlin wasn’t a title that people aimed for straight out of school, but the French girl wanted to do it. She knew that with an excellent mentor and determined work, she could make her goal, even if she would have to sacrifice having much of a social life. However, it wasn’t an impossible dream to reach the title by the time she had hit her 25th birthday, others had done it before her... just not many.
