we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence Quietly the girl hummed a song as she changed into her practice robes for quid ditch. The girl absolutely loved being up in the air, all worries set aside the moment she kicked off the ground. The chaser swept her hair to one side, tying it with a hair tie so it wouldn’t get in her face. Lilly sighed, taking the shorter pieces of her hair and pinning it down. Practice wasn’t a joke to her, if you practice bad, you play even worse.
The air around her was crisp, her fingers and cheeks stung from the rapid change of temperature, nothing she wasn’t used to by now. In the center of the pitch stood the other Slytherin quidditch players. All of them chatted quietly with each other as they waited for their captain to show up and start practice. “Hi Adrian.” Lilly greeted him sweetly. She took a deep breath of the cold air, the girl loved it out here.
Lilly couldn’t wrap her head around the reason why Adrian was her friend. He didn’t seem to be at all disgusted with her because she can’t get over her father’s death. She was more than happy for his friendship, it was one thing not liking most of the kids in your house, but she was not anti social. Honestly a mystery to her, but it didn’t bother her so much. She was itching to kick off, she needed to be soaring through the air, needed to feel the rush that flying gave her. “Does Draco plan on showing up anytime soon?” Lilly asked quietly, slightly irritated. Draco was the team captain, but he doesn’t act much like it at all. “If he decides to show up, I’ll be up there.” Silently the girl mounted off her broom and kicked off hard.
She never really ever got used to the rush of air flying past her, she was so relaxed in her environment. This was in her blood, she grew up with this. Lilly was still in the air, looking down on her team from up high. She sighed with content, she was where she wanted to be. And for once, nothing felt wrong, nothing could touch her up here, everything was perfect, how she wanted it be up here. Lilly laughed softly, not even the fact that their team captain was late could ruin this small piece of perfection.
Lilly shut her eyes and breathed slowly, she was aware of how much she was hurting inside, the way her heart just ached. When it first happened, she had bad dreams and used to wake up screaming for her dad. The sound still echoes in her ears when everything around her fell silent, just like now. It was now she was only realizing that she needed to get over all of it, the past is past; nothing she could ever do would bring her father back to her and her mother. Lilly needed the security her father had given her again. For whatever reason, Adrian brought back bits and pieces of it to her.
Lilly was so tired of being scared, being alone, mostly just tired of being pushed over because she was so vulnerable. She needed to show all of them she was so much more than that.

- - - - - - - - - - - -There wasn't anything very amusing about his dream, yet Adrian couldn't help but feel strangely calm and cheerful once he woke up. The dorm room was quiet and he slowly sat up, groggily running one of his hands through his spiky blond hair. Once he saw that the room was empty, he quickly grabbed his watch that was laying on the nightside table. "Shit," He groaned as he saw the time. He only had ten minutes to get ready and be down at the Quidditch pitch. As he stumbled about the room, pulling his legs through trousers and his arms through sleeves, he couldn't help but remember telling himself that he wouldn't play Quidditch his last year. He'd simply slack it off and practice on the side to stay in shape. The reasoning behind this was only because he hated getting up so early and suffering through Quidditch practices with Draco Malfoy as his captain. It was nearly intolerable, but not completely.
After having gotten completely ready, he sprinted down to the pitch with his broom in hand. He saw that only a few others were down there, including Lilly Montague. He didn't know her all too much from besides on the Quidditch pitch, but that didn't mean he wouldn't like to. Obviously, she had a pretty face and a good sense of humor. One of the main reasons why he probably never chased after her before was simply because she was fairly different than most Slytherin girls. She was nicer and quieter, something Adrian wasn't used to. He stood by a few of his friends and listened to them talk, but then was surprised to here Lilly's voice speaking his name. He smirked at her comment about their late captain and replied, "We might just be better off without him."
Adrian didn't have a problem with Draco, but he sure wasn't too thrilled with him after the whole Pansy and masquerade drama. Adrian then watched Lilly rocket up into the air. He admired the graceful way in which she flew, and decided to follow her lead. He grinned to his friends before kicking off the ground and feeling the rush of the wind against his face as he flew pierced through the air. Flying was an incredible feeling that he would never lose even though he flew so many times before. The rush of adrenaline he got was indescribable and irreplaceable. Then as he began to slow, he directed his broom to Lilly. The Nimbus 2001 smoothly zipped higher into the sky until he was right by her side.
"Great view huh?" He commented, enjoying the quiet of the sky. Looking down, their teammates seemed to be nothing more than little ants. Adrian glanced back at Lilly, seeing her serious expression. The way her lips were tilted down and her eyes were darker than normal, he knew something was up. Being a proper gentleman, Adrian couldn't help but wonder out loud, "Is everything okay, Lilly?" Adrian wasn't all too familiar with serious situations because he lived a great childhood, but that didn't mean he couldn't sympathize with those going through hard times. we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence “We might just be better off without him.” Lilly agreed silently as she pondered his words for a moment. This team could work so much better than it already was without Malfoy around. Some people didn’t agree to that. She was lost in thoughts about her future, what would happen to her, all the stupid drama between her, Pansy, and Daphne that she didn’t notice Adrian right away. Snapping out of her thoughts, a small smile crept onto her face slowly. “Definitely, it’s beautiful.” She said quietly enjoying everything around her. She looked down, still no sign of the platinum blond. At the moment, she really despised the boy, he was arrogant (no surprise there), he acted like a jerk (again no surprise), and he acted like he had no feelings, no care for anyone else, he only had his own thoughts in mind. It’d do her some good if he just fell of his broom, or quit the team, leaving it in the hands of someone much more capable.
“…Nothing…” Lilly hadn’t been much like herself since that night in the dungeons. She couldn’t help but wonder whether or not Malfoy was right about it all, what if she was nothing. She had been too stupid, too reckless Thursday night. It ended up landing her in the hospital wing because she had been too ignorant to realize they were trying to get to her. Every night, everything Malfoy said to her that night replayed itself in her head, pestering her until she felt like she’d go crazy. Whatever Malfoy wanted to do, worked, she felt empty and lifeless. Almost like Malfoy was a dementor himself and he had sucked all the happiness out of her, the only thing he didn’t manage to take away from her was this itty bitty piece of heaven.
“At the moment, I’m not too sure.” Coming from Malfoy, all the bull he’d been telling her about her dad could just be a lie, a whole bunch of bull formed into clever words. She wasn’t sure there was a shred of truth in Malfoy’s words. Her body still felt kind of sore, not to mention her side was still healing, slightly wrapped in bandages because of her own damn spell. When she had woken up in the hospital wing the next morning, she had a splitting headache which very nearly made her pass out again. One of these days she’d get back at Daphne and Parkinson, not to mention Malfoy for all of it, all the bull she had to put up with.
“He is probably the worst captain ever.” Lilly mumbled under her breath. All the other teams had more practice time because their captains bothered to come early. No surprise Malfoy turned out to be a dud. The boy got everything and anything he ever wanted in his life, what difference was it now? He wanted to play quidditch because Potter had gotten on, so his father somehow got Draco in and here he was now. Not much closer to winning the Championships at the end of the year than he was in his first year. The kid was just a spoiled, rich boy, who acted like it too. No one was ever good enough for him besides himself.

- - - - - - - - - - - -Of course it would be Draco Malfoy who had to be the Slytherin captain. It was Adrian's last year in Hogwarts, and more importantly, his last year playing Quidditch. He wanted the Slytherins to proudly win the Quidditch cup and regain their pride from the Gryffindors. But obviously enough, that wasn't going to happen if their captain never showed up to get the team organized. There were certainly better candidates for being Quidditch captain, but Snape picked his favorite, of course. Draco couldn't handle his prefect job, so what made him think that Quidditch was any different?
Adrian's thoughts focused back to shallower things such as the nice view. It was a boring conversation starter, but since Adrian wasn't all too close with his fellow chaser, anything more would be a little awkward. "It'd be even better if we had some action going on." Adrian complained lightly with a small shrug. He was just throwing out the suggestion, but still, he wished Draco would hurry up and get there already. What was taking him so long anyways? Was he with Pansy? As much as Adrian didn't want to, he imagined Draco and Pansy in the common room curled up on the couch. He pictured her telling him to blow off Quidditch practice to stay with her. Just the thought made Adrian become more tense and his grip tightened around the handle of the broom.
Trying to distract himself, Adrian turned his attention back to Lilly's own problems. She said that she wasn't too sure about her state of being, and he could understand what she meant. Still, he responded, "If you want, you can tell me what's going on, but no pressure. I get it if you don't…" It was only polite of him to offer his ear to her time of confusion. After all, it was clear on her face that something was bothering her and Adrian couldn't just sit by and ignore it. Unlike other guys, he did take time to notice a girl's emotions, as corny as it may sound.
"I agree entirely," Adrian grumbled in response to her comment about their fabulous captain. He still wasn't there and he could see the others below were getting restless. Again, thoughts of Draco and Pansy invaded Adrian's mind. He saw her pleading with Draco to stay with her, and Adrian knew that it should have been him instead. He should have been with Pansy while Draco was up here instructing Quidditch. Adrian should have been the one to insist he had to get going. Adrian should have been the guy Pansy fell in love with. Together, they would be perfect. Two Slytherins with pureblood and power. They were a good match and complimented each others personalities. If only Pansy had chosen him in the first place, he never would have gotten so confused with Hermione. If only Pansy had chosen him over Draco Malfoy. we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence Lilly could tell that the rest of the team was getting antsy. You see, Draco wouldn’t be captain if the others brought it up to Snape. Lilly was pretty sure with enough complaints, Snape would change his mind. She sighed heavily, she turned to face Adrian. As she studied him, she debated on whether or not to tell Adrian about what had happened. How much could it hurt reliving that night?
“I - it’s stupid really. Never mind.” Was it? It honestly seemed like it. She tried ignoring the pain in her side. She’d been told to not attend her quid ditch, but that was impossible for her to sit back and watch when she could be up there with her team. Her own severing curse did this to her, of course with her luck it’d be her and not who she had been intending to inflict the curse on. She wasn’t supposed to be flying, Draco probably knew that too.
How was she supposed to come out with something like this? She wasn’t even sure what he had said was true. So she was stuck in this seemingly, endless, painful situation. Clever words or hiding her emotions won’t fix her problems, she knew that now. She hardly doubted anything could help her at the moment. The girl had every intention of solve her problems herself. If it got to a point where she needed to tell, she would, without hesitation.
“You better tell him, who knows, maybe he’d be your saving grace.” A little voice in her head urged her. Lilly breathed in sharply, the stinging in her side was becoming harder and harder to ignore. She didn’t want to go down, down there, people could hurt her and stomp all over her. Up here, she was the most powerful, she had the upper hand when it came to flying. It certainly wasn’t fair to her for everyone to ask her to leave this. What was she going to do?
“My dad…he was a death eater.” She barely heard the words escape her lips. When she said it aloud, it sounded more true, more real than when Malfoy had said it. She wasn’t going to cry this time, she was stronger, she just had to prove it to everyone else. Lilly wondered if her mother knew that he had been a death eater, if she did, Lilly wanted to know for how long she knew about it. Something inside her changed, she felt the slight pang of betrayal wash over her. Was it all just a lie?

- - - - - - - - - - - -Adrian was never one who pried, no matter how much he wanted to know whatever the information was. He figured it was rude to demand knowledge of things that weren't even any of his business. So even though Lilly looked like their was obviously something on her mind, that wasn't stupid at all, he didn't push anything. Instead, he answered, "Well, alright. If you're sure." He shrugged his shoulders and looked back towards the ground.
The other Slytherins were looking irritated; Adrian wouldn't be surprised if they started a riot and marched to Snape's office, demanding a different captain. His thoughts drifted towards that. What if he were to be captain? That'd certainly be a nice way to end his seventh and final year, but that was very doubtful. Draco could talk his way in or out of anything, and he was sure no matter how many students wanted a change in captain, Draco wouldn't back down.
Snape and Draco seemed to always have some sort of unspoken alliance. After all, Draco wasn't an exceedingly bright student, but always did well in his classes. So the rumor went, at least. And if Draco was ever out of the common room, past curfew, Adrian highly doubted Snape would dock points or even give him a detention, of course, that is if he was the one who caught the little prat.
After being caught up in his thoughts, he jumped a little when he heard Lilly speaking once more to him. Adrian's eyes widened at the statement she just said; what a twist this conversation had taken! One minute they were talking about Malfoy being a slimeball, the next parents being death eaters? Adrian frowned a little, unsure of what to say. His parents praised the Dark Lord, but were not associated with him. Not at all. Therefore, Adrian didn't know how to react. "Oh," He murmured, "Did you just find out… recently?" Lilly looked hurt by this information, so it obviously wasn't a good thing. Some would take pride in being acquainted with the Dark Lord, but Lilly wasn't one of those people apparently. we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence Every time she thought about it, the words just seem to ring in her ears, she trusted her dad with her life. One wrong move on her dad’s part could have gotten them all killed. Whatever happened to dad’s being there when you needed them? All that seemed to have been thrown out the window the moment he decided to keep it all a secret. “Yeah…” Her throat felt dry just saying it, but there were no signs of tears. Lilly would have to guess that the worst part in all of this, her mother probably knew about it all along. And yet, she was willing to put the life her their only daughter at risk. Between what Malfoy said, what she had witnessed, she just didn’t have the heart to be oblivious to all the lies, to turn away from what she knew was wrong. She needed to know the truth to it all, she needed peace of mind.
“I was stupid to not have noticed it before.” Thinking back on it, the ministry didn’t even get involved in the sudden death, none of the death eaters were dragged away to Azkaban, nothing. Who wouldn’t have noticed that? When Lilly had gotten the letter, her mother specifically said she was not permitted to attend the funeral. No arrangements have been made for her to leave, no one wanted her to see her father for the last time. She basically ran away just to get to see him. Was that even fair to her? Her father had been gone three months before he was killed. He didn’t even write her while he was gone. All this made her wonder, what did she do wrong?
“If Malfoy hadn’t told me, I would still be believing in a very elaborate lie.” It came to that conclusion. Lilly would never know if her father really loved her, or if he was just using them as a cover up for his life. Obviously he didn’t want her joining the ranks of Voldemort, otherwise he would have told her. They weren’t even all that rich like all the other death eaters seemed to be. What did that say?
Lilly looked around, she studied the entrance to the pitch. No sign that Malfoy was ever showing up. “Well, it looks like our ‘captain’ is a no show.” She sighed heavily, so much for practice.
