I‘M MORE THAN READY TO SEE IT GONE AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SET MYSELF FREE SO I‘M TAKIN OFF THIS PAIN YOU PUT ON ME To be back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was something extremely exciting in the mind of Ginny Weasley. The long summer months spent at home had not been horrible, but it was still nice to be back in the familiar castle, seeing Dean and all of her friends. She had to admit that she was glad to have a break from all the noise and chaos that seemed to lurk around the Burrow for the last few weeks of the semester. Not a day would go by without hearing some kind of sound drifting up and down the stairs as the inhabitants moved around, packing their trunks and took advantage of the fact that Mrs. Weasley wasn’t making them de-gnome the garden. Only a few days before, Ginny had boarded the crimson steam engine and traveled back to the precious school to begin fifth year of magical education. As the train rolled away from Platform 9 3/4, she had focused her thoughts on the year ahead, and wondered how it was going to be now that the Dark Lord was sending his Death Eaters around the world, wreaking havoc upon both worlds. It was sure to be much more terrifying, and she was sure that a lot of students were going to be unable to sleep soundly at night. In fact, she was sure that there were going to be a lot of students that she wasn’t going to see back at the school at all. But, those gloomy thoughts had quickly been dismissed when her compartment door had opened and saw her ex boyfriend, Michael Corner, standing there. During the ride, they had reconnected, and Ginny couldn’t say that she was disappointed to have him back in her life.
The moment she arrived at Hogwarts, Ginny had felt her excitement bubble. Not even a year ago, she had been wondering whether or not she would even be returning to the school since her mother had gone on a tirade about how she and Ron had no business going back, but they had convinced her that they would be fine and she was glad. She couldn’t have imagined sitting at home with her mother while everyone else got to go back, and knew she would have been nagging her mother constantly to let her go back if she hadn’t agreed. That morning, she had woken up to the sun shining through her open dormitory window and had crossed the room in order to gaze down at her beloved Hogwarts. The lake looked peaceful and calm, and so, Ginny had taken off her school robe, and had made her way down there, a book in hand. Passing the Whomping Willow, Ginny's long, red hair blew out behind her as she walked, and draped gently across her shoulders as she sat down against an old Willow tree and looked out onto the glassy surface of the lake. It was one of her favourite places, and as she watched the Giant Squid play within the waves and heard the mermaids' song, Ginny instantly felt glad to be alive and well, and was glad to be back at the place that held so many memories for her, both good and bad. That was where she’d stayed until dinner time, just enjoying the weather and the time she’d spent walking around the grounds with Dean.
Now that dinner was over and Dean and Seamus had gone off to work on something for one of their classes, and Ginny was left on her own. She didn’t mind this time, however, since she had some homework to do. She did, however, have to go back to the common room in order to retrieve her book bag. She had stored it in her dormitory before going down to dinner since she hadn’t wanted the inconvenience of carrying it around, and though she was tempted to try and summon it with Accio, she decided that it wasn’t worth it and headed up the stairs to the seventh floor. The corridor was dark and empty the way it typically was after dinner and Ginny would have been frightened if it had still been her first year. But, it wasn’t so she was fine and continued on her way. Once she reached the staircase, she ventured up until she had reached the seventh floor, and slowly began to head back to the common room to grab her bag and then re-locate to the library afterward.

Draco was about to go insane, that much he was sure of. There was just no way he could accomplish the mission, more specifically the ones involving Potter and his pals, within a decent amount of time. He had no idea how he was supposed to make practically six years of hatred morph into something like-he shuddered mentally-friendship. Obviously Draco knew he couldn't just outwardly protest and fail the Dark Lord, however, so he was pretty much backed into a corner. Draco vaguely wished there would be some way he could just magically get them to like him, but he knew that would likely be a bad idea with even worse results. No, Draco knew he had to do this one the old fashioned way; hard work. In short, he was going to have to put all of his studies aside to focus on the tasks. If he didn't scheme a little about the tasks, Draco knew there would be no since for him to even try. He just wasn't good at the whole "be friendly and learn how to talk to people without sounding like a jerk". It wasn't his fault he'd been a bully for so long. Well alright, maybe it was, but Draco wouldn't wound his pride and admit it. "This is impossible," Draco muttered under his breath, turning down another corridor.
By now, he wasn't exactly sure where he was going. He had only been at dinner for roughly five minutes. After being bugged almost consistently by one of the thousands of girls at that table, Draco had muttered something about being tired and had left. He didn't feel like dealing with other people, especially not when there were more important things to be taken care of. Once he'd exited the Great Hall, however, Draco had really no idea where he was going to go. Rather absentmindedly, he had begun to wander the castle to see if he'd get any inspiration for his task and, if not inspiration, maybe a possible chance at making something happen. He passed a couple of portraits, thoughts still swirling around his brain.
Draco was just about to give up with the whole walking around idea and just let his feet carry him back to the Dungeon, when he realized just where he was. Even though Draco didn't know the exact location of the Gryffindor common room, he did know it was somewhere up here. Draco glanced around, wondering if he might get lucky and run into one of Potter's friends. Seeing as everyone was at dinner though, Draco sighed and just continued his little walk. He figured that just maybe if he walked around a bit more, run some time off the nonexistent clock that was ticking over his head, then maybe one of them would come back up here for whatever reason. It would be wonderful, in Draco's opinion, if something like that would happen. It would make his job much easier.
After about five minutes of pacing around the corridor, Draco grew bored and weary. He sighed and was about to sink down to the floor, maybe take a nice nap, or maybe even go back to the common room, when suddenly he heard a noise. Draco glanced over his shoulder, seeing a the shadow of a figure approaching from down the hall. He swallowed and headed forward toward the figure, deciding that if it wasn't one of the people he'd intended on meeting then he'd just give up for the night. Draco rounded the corner, slamming into a person with red hair.

I‘M MORE THAN READY TO SEE IT GONE AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SET MYSELF FREE SO I‘M TAKIN OFF THIS PAIN YOU PUT ON ME As she walked, Ginny saw a person round the corner and smack right into her. Rubbing her shoulder, she looked up to see who had carelessly walked into her and saw that it was none other than Draco Malfoy. She sighed at this, feeling less than pleased about the person that she had just collided with. Luckily for her, she hadn’t fallen flat on her back or rear end from the impact so Malfoy wouldn’t be able to hold anything against her, though she highly suspected that he would do it regardless. That was just the kind of person he was; strutting around the castle just waiting to walk in on something he could use for blackmail against just about everyone, with the exception of his fellow Slytherins of course. She knew that everyone else, in his eyes, weren’t worthy of anything but torment and cruelty, and he never hesitated to dish it out whenever an opportunity presented itself. So, she fully expected him to make use of this situation, and was mentally preparing herself for whatever sarcastic remark would come out of his mouth. While she waited for him to be out with his rude, snarky comment about how she should watch where she was going, she wondered why he had chosen the seventh floor corridor of all places to go. Classes were over for the day and he had no reason to be up there, but she didn’t bother to ask him since she knew she would get a less than helpful response. Plus, she really didn’t care anyway; all she cared about was continuing on her way to the common room, getting her bag and getting her homework out of the way so she could have some time with Dean once he and Seamus came back.
Sighing, Ginny tried not to think about what was going through his head that had stolen his attention enough to cause him to bang into her, preferring to keep her mind blank. That did not, however, stop her from wishing he would just say what he was more than likely going to say and be done with it so she could continue on with her plans, plans that certainly did not involve standing in the middle of the seventh floor corridor with the one person in the entire school that she could honestly say she loathed with an undying passion. She and the other Gryffindors shared a similar view on Draco Malfoy and the other Slytherins, and that wasn’t going to change no matter how disturbed, tired and upset he seemed to be. She was kind by nature, but he didn’t deserve her sympathy or her kindness after everything he’d done to her, her family, and her friends. She stood for a moment, impatiently waiting for him to speak up, and when he didn’t she stepped up to the plate to beat him to the punch. “Ouch, watch where you’re walking Malfoy!”
she snapped, still rubbing her shoulder, which was now feeling quite sore. She hoped that it wasn’t going to be anything that lasted too long, because she had planned to spend some time practising for the Quidditch tryouts at some point, and didn’t need a sore shoulder preventing her from being able to hold on properly. Silence fell between the two of them, and Ginny was feeling more and more displeased with every passing minute. He still hadn’t gotten his comment out, and she was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to come. That would give her an opportunity to fire back at him – which she was fully prepared to do – and be on her way. Then, she could go to the common room and forget that the encounter had even happened as she lost herself in her homework and waited for Dean to come back so they could spend some time together. “Well, are you just going to stand there all day?” she asked, still waiting for an apology she knew wasn’t going to come. While she waited for him to respond to both of her comments, she studied him and saw that he seemed to be either on a mission, or deep in thought. He also looked like he had maybe been lacking sleep, but she couldn’t be sure. Wishing he would hurry up and answer her, Ginny shifted so that her weight was distributed equally between her feet and put a hand on her hip, wanting nothing more than to just keep on going. When he had slammed into the girl, Draco really hadn't expected it. He thought she was closer to the middle of the corridor, or the other side. But no, of course she had to walk right into him. Draco sighed, but looked down at her, fully intending to say something along the lines of, "Are you blind? Watch it, you stupid girl." That is, until he noticed who exactly he had smacked into. It was one of the Weasleys, that much was obvious. Her hair, and the house she was in, was basically a dead giveaway. Draco wondered to himself for a moment, and finally realized that her name was Ginny. Right? Draco inwardly sighed, hoping that was, in fact, the correct name. He didn't figure she'd appreciate it too much if he went and called her some completely wrong name. He had opened his mouth, about to say something to her (though he wasn't quite sure what just yet), when she cut him off with a rather snappy reply. Draco couldn't blame her though, because they had collided in the middle of the hall. He did feel a slight burst of annoyance though, especially when she said it was his fault for running into her. Draco didn't think it was, but figured it would be bad form for him to snap at her. Also, he didn't think that would much help what he needed to do.
Ginny, it was obvious, likely thought he was an arrogant jerk. Draco couldn't blame her though, because it wasn't like he had a high opinion of the girl. Most of the Slytherins thought the Weasleys were just a poor excuse for the term "Pureblood", and didn't think they deserved the title. Draco believed this too, but in all truth he'd never really gotten to know one of them. Not that that mattered, of course. Draco figured all of the blood traitors were the same. Finally, he had opened his mouth (once more) to apologize-or fake it, but she wouldn't know, right?-when she cut him off. Yet another snarky comment popped out of her mouth, and that was when Draco felt himself frown. No, this was definitely not going to be an easy task.
"Actually," Draco began, sniffing slightly, "I was going to apologize for running into you." Draco inwardly shuddered; he could not believe that he'd just apologized. It went against nearly every fiber of his being to apologize to the girl, but he didn't want to be hated even further down the road. He had to get on her good side, somehow. Though Draco didn't want this to be a particularly long and drawn out conversation, he also didn't want to just walk away, because that would be rather counterproductive. After all, he had come up here to meet one of these bloody Gryffindors, hadn't he? Draco casually stuffed his hands into the pockets of his trousers, and looked at her. He could tell that if he overstepped his boundaries-otherwise known as being his usual self-then the girl would probably go off like a spitfire and try hexing him. Draco didn't particularly have the energy, or desire, to be hexed at the moment. Instead, a thought popped into his head. he figured it was a better idea than nothing. "Besides, shouldn't you be off at dinner anyway?" Draco questioned.
Since he had left dinner in a hurry, he honestly had no idea if it was still going on or not. Draco didn't have any form of device with him that would allow him to figure out the time, and he honestly didn't care. He was tired, and was beginning to grow irritable from the lack of sleep. Ginny looked very menacing, the way she was standing with her hand on her hip, but Draco just didn't care. He wasn't going to jeopardize his task, no, but he wasn't just going to suddenly flip on a switch in his brain labeled 'Be nice to Gryffindors, especially Weasleys' and just do it. He was much to proud for that, and knew it would be much too suspicious.

I‘M MORE THAN READY TO SEE IT GONE AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SET MYSELF FREE SO I‘M TAKIN OFF THIS PAIN YOU PUT ON ME Ginny was not happy, that much was obvious. Now, did she not only have to deal with Malfoy but she also had a brand new bruise forming on her shoulder from the impact of the collision. She reached up to rub the sore spot again and narrowed her chocolate eyes at the Slytherin boy now standing before her. Once her shoulder felt a bit better, she dropped her hand to her hip and waited for him to say something, expecting him to blame her for the entire ordeal and ready to snap back at him if it became necessary. She wasn’t afraid to raise her voice or insult him because he wasn’t a Prefect anymore and couldn’t do anything to her, so she could say and do whatever she wanted. Of course, she herself was a Prefect so she wouldn’t say anything too horrible but she would definitely be thinking it in the back of her mind. He was not a nice, friendly person so he was going to be treated exactly how he treated her, especially now since he had bruised her shoulder and would be at fault if she couldn’t practise for the tryouts because of it. That was not going to go over well, and she was fully going to blame him for anything that her sore arm prevented her from doing until it didn’t hurt anymore, and if he had a problem than that was just too bad.
While she waited for him to answer her, she regarded his appearance and saw that there was something different about him. She couldn’t place her finger on it exactly, but she knew that there was something different. Perhaps it was a lack of sleep, or the fact that his hair wasn’t slicked back with its usual amount of gel, but it was definitely something. She was him frown at her when she cut him off, and silently told herself to stop doing that otherwise this encounter would never end and she’d be stuck in the corridor waiting for him to speak for Merlin knew how long. She already knew that he thought of her as a blood traitor and sorry excuse for a pure-blood, but she thought the same about him. He was arrogant and crude, and just his presence alone was making her day feel less enjoyable. If this conversation didn’t end soon, she was going to spend the rest of her day in a sour mood, and she didn’t think that Dean or anyone else who hung around her would appreciate that.
When Malfoy finally spoke, Ginny looked at him in clear shock. Had he really just apologized to her? Well, that was new. For a moment she just blinked at him, too surprised to form words. But finally, she raised an eyebrow at him and brought her arms up to fold across her chest. “I’m sorry, I must have heard you wrong. I thought you just apologized,”
she said accusingly. This was definitely not typical of him, and she was convinced that because of that she had to be hearing or imagining things. Right now, she wanted nothing more than for him to walk away so that she could continue on her way to the common room, but that didn’t seem to be happening any time soon and she frowned in annoyance and confusion. He did realize who he was talking too, didn’t he? Perhaps he needed to go and see Madam Pomfrey or something, since he had obviously hit his head and forgotten how he normally treated her on the rare occasions when they encountered each other. “Not that it’s any of your business, but I finished early. And I could say the same thing about you,” she said coldly, shifting her weight to the other foot. “What are you doing in the seventh floor corridor anyway?” she inquired, now genuinely curious. There was no reason for him to be up there except to attend Arithmancy if he was taking it, and classes had been over for at least an hour and half by now. Draco was still trying to get over the slight revulsion that had presented itself when he'd apologized to the redhead. He sort of wished he hadn't now, especially because it was rather obvious she wouldn't be like half of the other girls in the castle and swoon to his apparent charm. Draco sighed inwardly, fidgeting his fingers in his pockets as he tried to figure out what to do while she stood there and kept giving him that blasted look. He couldn't figure out what she was trying to convey exactly with the look, though he guessed it had something to do with her not liking him and wanting him to clear off as soon as possible. He couldn't blame her. Under any other circumstances, Draco would have preferred to be hiding away in his room or even the common room, doing whatever he felt like. Talking to her was not something he particularly enjoyed being at the top of his "to do" list. He knew what she'd do if he tried snapping and being snarky with her, though now that he had actually begun to converse with the witch he wished he could still be snarky. She was irritating him. Though Draco wasn't quite sure why she irritated him so, he ended up figuring it probably had something to do with it being precoded into his blood. Draco resisted the urge to wrinkle his nose in disgust as he thought of her blood traitor status. It was disgusting. Sometimes Draco thought even mudbloods were better than blood traitors-at least they didn't have a choice in the matter.
She answered not long after that, and Draco groaned inwardly. Of course, now he'd probably never live down the fact that he'd actually apologized. In all truth, he couldn't believe he'd apologized. He felt a bit sick, really. "Yes, I apologized, Weasley," Draco half growled, a headache slowly coming to the front of his mind. He narrowed his eyes at her, then relaxed a bit to make the pain go away. He just had to remember that he wasn't there to start a fight. Draco figured if he kept repeating it over and over in his head, he'd be able to manage chatting with her for a few more minutes without dying. "Apologizing is generally the proper thing to do when someone runs into another person. Or were you not taught that as you were brought up?" And just like that, Draco had a sudden feeling he should've kept his mouth shut. But honestly, what kind of person accuses when someone apologizes? That was something Draco couldn't help but wonder, though he knew she probably was going to disregard his apology after his last little remark. He just couldn't help it. Sarcasm and cutting words were like everyday things he used in his conversations. Without them, Draco wouldn't be Draco.
After a moment, he cleared his throat a little awkwardly. Draco frowned a bit, desperately wishing he had been able to catch some sleep earlier. If he had, then maybe he would have been able to keep his tongue more in check. "What am I doing here?" he repeated, thinking up a lie as quickly as he could. "I lost something and I thought I'd dropped it on my way to a class, so I came to look up here," he said easily, almost as if lying was second nature. Well, in all truth, it probably was second nature to him. Draco shifted, putting more weight on his right foot now, raising an eyebrow at her. He then decided waiting for an answer would not be his best bet, so he just continued talking. "Don't you Gryffindors generally crowd around your house table and talk to each other, even if you finish eating?" Draco questioned, wondering if perhaps there was another hidden cause behind her aggression than simply meeting him in the corridors.

I‘M MORE THAN READY TO SEE IT GONE AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SET MYSELF FREE SO I‘M TAKIN OFF THIS PAIN YOU PUT ON ME Ginny was still wrapping her head around the fact that Draco Malfoy had just apologized rather than blaming her for banging into him the way that he normally did if they happened to collide. It didn’t happen very often, but when it did you could almost always guarantee that Malfoy would blame the her because he did no wrong in his own eyes. That was one of the big things that irked Ginny about the Slytherin boy, how he and his family thought they were the height of perfection and it was everyone else who had wronged them. People like that really set Ginny’s nerves off, because most children had grown up being taught that nobody was perfect; Draco Malfoy was an exception to that, of course. She didn’t like the way he strutted around the castle acting like her and his housemates owned the school and everyone else were filth beneath their feet, though she figured that everyone hated that. That was why Slytherins were really only friends with other Slytherins, since most people outside their own house couldn’t stand them. Ginny herself hadn’t met a single Slytherin that she actually liked and she was an extremely friendly person who tried to be nice to everyone so that was saying something.
She kept her gaze on him, trying to will him to clear off and let her continue on her way. When he didn’t, she sighed inwardly and let her bag drop to the floor, figuring it was better than keeping it on her shoulder if she was just going to stand there. She debated turning on her heel and walking away but she feared that he would simply follow her, so she decided to just stand there and let him finish saying whatever he wanted to say. After that, it would be safe to walk away and not be followed so that seemed like the best plan at the moment. The redhead raised an eyebrow when he responded, confirming that she hadn’t been hearing things, and she wondered what on earth had happened that was making him act so…civilly towards her. She smiled when he half-growled his response, thinking that maybe the normal Malfoy would finally surface, and when he didn’t she sighed. Then, she realized that their roles seemed to be reversed this time and she decided to use that to her advantage. “Oh, I’m sorry Malfoy. I thought that apologizing was a foreign concept to you since you seem to think you never do anything wrong,”
she snapped back, feeling her annoyance bubble. He was still making his usual sarcastic comments so maybe she hadn’t been sucked into some twisted alternate reality where Draco Malfoy was actually friendly and kind, but it was still strange to her that he was refraining from doing it as often as usual. “Are you sure you’re feeling alright?” she questioned, not out of concern but out of confusion. She regarded him as he cleared his throat, waiting for her question to be answered. This entire confrontation was awkward so she couldn’t blame him for his awkward throat clear, and she desperately wished it would just end. She noticed that he had not waited for her to answer him before continuing on, and waited for him to finish before answering both questions. “Fair enough I suppose,” she said calmly with a shrug. “Sometimes, but not always,” she said defensively. “And what about you? Don’t you normally drag Crabbe and Goyle around with you everywhere you go?” She was tempted to make an additional comment about him finally being old enough to walk around in the dark corridors by himself, but decided against it. She didn’t feel like getting into a spat with Draco Malfoy right now. All she wanted to do was go upstairs and pretend that this encounter had never happened. Draco could tell the whole apology thing had thrown her off. He still couldn't believe he had actually done that, though he did like how it seemed to throw her for a loop and confuse her a bit. In all honesty, Draco wanted nothing more than to call her a stupid short little Weaselette, but he didn't think that would go over well. He had heard of Ginny Weasley's bat-bogey hexes, and most definitely didn't want to be on the receiving end of one of those. Draco didn't think it would be very pleasant, and there was no way he was going to subject himself to that kind of torture and humiliation. Sometimes Draco dearly wished he hadn't been such an arse to these Gryffindors in years past, because that way this task would be made much easier than it was proving to be. There was Hermione, who was being - well, he couldn't even describe it, and now there was Ginny, who was just being difficult. Not that Draco could blame her though, because he had (not that he would admit it, of course) been sort of a complete arsehole to them for their whole Hogwarts career. But there again, they were Gryffindors and Weasley's, it's not like they should get any special treatment just because Draco didn't feel like insulting them. It was sort of like one of those things that was pre-programmed into his brain. He had grown up with his father telling him the Weasleys were worthless, and it wasn't like he was going to suddenly start swooning for them now. He just had to act like he liked them. That's all.
He kept telling himself that. He continually went over it in his head. They would not be allowed to get under his skin and screw him over, because Draco Malfoy was better than that. He was not going to let this Weaselette get the upper hand, because that would be bad. So, when she had snapped back at him, Draco knew he would have no choice but to retaliate. "Oh, hilarious Weasley, are those the kind of manners you learn in Gryffindor? Not to be kind to someone when they actually do apologize? Not very grateful, are you?" Draco half snapped back, though he didn't have as much of an edge to his words as normal. He was trying to refrain from making a crack about her being poor, because Draco knew there was a fine line between angry words and a pissed off Ginny. "I am, for your information, perfectly fine," Draco began, figuring he could use her question to his advantage. "I'm not sure about you though. Were you really concerned for me, Weaselette? I feel touched," Draco said, sarcasm practically lacing his voice. He sort of wanted to get a bit of a rise out of her, but didn't want things to go to the extreme. He hoped she'd find his last comment not overly offensive, though her being concerned for him might of been one of the most offensive things he could think of. Draco's lips twitched into an amused smirk as he thought of this, but then he schooled his expression back into half a frown and half a sneer. He wasn't quite sure which to use yet, though he was leaning towards his infamous sneer. That was, after all, what she deserved.
Oh yes, this was most definitely one of the most awkward conversations Draco had had in his life - and he had to deal with those stuffy dinner parties at his parent's house. This was going downhill rather rapidly, and Draco could only hope to save the stupid ship before it submerged itself in the water and killed them all. He was, however, a bit pleased to see she seemed a bit more calm and less snippy. It made him feel less snippy, and his headache that had been threatening to make an appearance was disappearing. "I just thought you'd be hanging with your boyfriend...who was it this week?" Draco asked, trying to keep the teasing tone out of his voice almost completely, but not quite. He didn't want her to be overly offended by his comments...well, just yet, at least. "Crabbe and Goyle can never manage to drag themselves away from dinner. They stay there well past everyone else," Draco said with a slight roll of his eyes. Those two idiots always sat there and pigged out, then they'd come back to the common room laden with food that just kept reappearing on their plate. One time they'd brought nearly two trays full of cupcakes. It was ridiculous.

I‘M MORE THAN READY TO SEE IT GONE AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SET MYSELF FREE SO I‘M TAKIN OFF THIS PAIN YOU PUT ON ME Malfoy’s words and actions were throwing Ginny off, and she wasn’t enjoying it. She kept wondering what on Earth had happened to make him act like an actual human being instead of a stuck up snobby Slytherin robot that he normally was. She was almost daring him to try and act like his normal self so that she could let off some of the steam that had been building throughout the day, and normally she would have just walked away from him. But, she found her curiousity with his current behaviour rooting her to the spot. It wasn’t a situation that she wanted to remain in, but she just couldn’t force herself to walk away. Part of it was because she was hoping to figure out what was in his head, and part of her didn’t want to risk turning her back on him in case he was planning to jinx or hex her while she walked away. It was something he would typically do, and she’d seen him act calm and less mean only to turn around and hex someone as they retreated. He’d done it to Harry in their fourth year and had gotten himself turned into a ferret for it so it was only natural to expect he’d do it again. If he annoyed her enough during this conversation, however, she would just Bat-Boegy hex him and be on her way; it wasn’t like she could get in trouble for it if she felt threatened and wanted to defend herself.
He seemed to be struggling with the desire to make a sarcastic remark and stopping himself from doing it. It was strange and amusing to see him struggling to be somewhat nice, and she decided then that she was glad she’d stayed there long enough to witness this. It was the kind of struggle that someone who was trying to change themselves had, only Ginny couldn’t think why he would actually want to do that. Draco Malfoy and his gang were the ones that all the younger Slytherins looked up to and wanted to be like, despite the fact that they bullied them constantly. It was one of those situations were adoration and admiration trumped the mean way they were treated, and they were too blinded by that admiration to care that they were being bullied. It was horrible, but true. “Actually, we’re taught to be kind when the person deserves it. You’re not someone who deserves it after all the years of torment, Malfoy,”
she said simply, glaring at him. She kept her hands folded across her chest, refusing to back down or let him have the upper hand in this as long as she could help it. “Concern and sarcasm are two different things, or were you not taught the difference?” she said dryly, ignoring the part about whether or not she was alright. As if she would actually ever feel any sort of sympathy or concern for the one person in Hogwarts that she could truly say she hated with an undying passion. The fact that he was still talking to her and not moving along after bumping into her was a bit concerning, and Ginny was beginning to feel more and more uncomfortable by the minute. She didn’t want to be the first one to walk away because she still thought he might try and hex her when she turned her back on him, but she didn’t want to stay there all day either. She debated asking why he was still standing there associating with her, but figured that wouldn’t help at all and decided against it. She could feel her head starting to pound, and she really wanted nothing more than to just go to the common room and lay down. When he mentioned Dean, she narrowed her eyes. “That’s none of your business!” she spat, feeling anger and annoyance rising within her but being careful not to let it surface. “And you’re not there ordering them around or scaring first years? Surprising,” she responded, genuinely surprised to find that he wasn’t going about his usual routines around the school. Something was definitely up, and Ginny was determined to find out what it was. [/blockquote][/blockquote] TAG ! draco malfoy! OUTFIT ! hogwarts uniform. WORDS!707 LYRICS ! As he stood there, having a moderately normal conversation with her, Draco couldn't help but wonder why the hell she hadn't left yet. He thought it would be the first thing on her to do list the moment he'd tried to engage her in conversation. But no, instead she was still standing there and talking to him. He found it rather odd, if only because he didn't think she'd be able to tolerate him. Maybe she just doesn't have as violent a temper as her other friends, Draco thought rather dryly. He felt the urge to scoff at himself. Of course that wasn't true, she just seemed to be restraining herself. Draco had a very clear idea of her hexing him without much qualms if he continued to push her. It wasn't that hard to figure out what she was capable of, especially after having been on the receiving end of one of her Bat-Bogey hexes last year. It wasn't a pleasant experience, and Draco didn't feel very keen on repeating it. So he continued to eye her a bit warily, his hand loosely grasping his wand in his robes. He hoped she wouldn't try hexing him.
As he struggled to be polite to her, Draco felt like she was getting some sort of amusement out of it. It sort of annoyed him, but he couldn't just start raving at her. Draco shifted from one foot to the other, sort of wanting to just walk away now. He couldn't help but wonder why the Weasley girl wasn't hanging around with her Gryffindors though. Normally you couldn't even think about separating those gold and red clad prats. Maybe she was different though, Draco figured. He really had no idea what Ginny Weasley was like, especially in terms of her friends. He didn't know if she preferred to be by herself or what, but Draco decided to stop wondering about it. It wasn't like he really cared anyway. When she answered him, Draco wasn't very surprised by her annoyed stance and tone. "I can't believe you'd accuse me of tormenting someone, Weasley. I wouldn't dream of doing anything of the sort," Draco drawled in a bored tone. So what if he was lying? Tormenting was just something he couldn't help. "Actually, I do know the difference between the two. Your tone, however, most definitely was one of concern and not sarcasm. Stop trying to lie, Weasley." Draco finally figured that he was just going to say to hell with being overly polite. It wasn't in his nature, and acting nice to her was making him feel a bit sick. Besides, it was obvious she hated him with a fierce passion, and Draco wasn't going to just stand by and let her throw insults in his face.
It wasn't hard for him to tell that she was feeling less comfortable the more he talked, and Draco sort of liked it. She looked rather shifty, but he expected something along the lines of her Gryffindor pride refused to let her be the first one to back down and leave. That was fine for Draco, after all, because he could stand here and make her uncomfortable all day. He was just about to make another snide comment about her supposed boyfriend, when she suddenly retaliated to his first comment. His hand tightened briefly on his wand, but when he saw she wasn't reaching for hers he relaxed a bit. So far I've managed to avoid getting hexed, Draco thought warily. She had bristled like an unruly lioness when he had brought her boyfriend into things, and Draco figured if he kept pushing that button she'd do more than bristle. "Calm down, Weasley. I was just asking. Is that a crime now?" Draco asked, a slight smirk appearing on his features.
Just as soon as she'd acted almost genuinely surprised about him not being flanked by his cronies, Draco frowned inwardly. If there was something he knew about Gryffindors, it was that they had to just go and stick their noses where it didn't belong until they got a satisfactory result. It would be just his luck, Draco decided, that she would push his buttons relentlessly until he was about to crack. All of a sudden, he wanted to get away from her and leave her be. Draco narrowed his eyes slightly at her instead though, his own pride flaring. "I don't need Crabbe and Goyle to push first years around, Weasley. They're not that hard to petrify," he replied with a slight scoff to his voice. "Maybe you should just prance along back to your common room, that way I can do my scaring in peace," Draco suggested, just wanting the conversation to end before she could get too inquisitive with him.
