[ It was a common scene, one that most everyone was used to by now. The “Golden Trio” as it was, though really in her mind they were simply her two best friends. The two people who could frustrate her to no end, but she didn’t know what she’d do without them. As they sat there in the common room, hanging out per usual, Hermione just let herself enjoy the moments. She sat on the floor near Harry, her back against the couch, and a book in her lap. Just some light reading that she wanted to get in between writing essays. Homework was always on the forefront of her mind but what was new? She wanted to graduate and do well, even though part of her was thinking that they might not make it to that point as soon as she hoped. With Voldemort out there, things were only going to get worse. She had a plan in her mind, of things they’d need to prepare for and what else needed to be done just in case.
”Have you turned in that Potions book yet Harry?” she asked, glancing over at him. It was no secret that she hated the fact that Harry had beaten her in Potions, and still continued to do better than her, all because of that book. It wasn’t that she doubted her best friend’s ability to brew Potions – it was just that she was always the first one done, although this year had been far more difficult than her previous years. Merlin knows she had been on them about that book. She just wanted to know more about it first, just in case. It gave her a bad feeling but she wasn’t sure what to do about it, other than turn it in. They had to be careful. Harry was still having those nightmares, that connection was still open, and she just didn’t understand why he had left it open – why he hadn’t tried harder. She knew the lessons hadn’t worked amazingly the previous year but he should at least try. That connection was dangerous. She wanted everything to be okay, to be like it was a few years ago, but it just simply wasn’t going to work out that way. She would stick with them, through thick and thin. It just felt like things were becoming far more complicated as of late. Credits to: REAL SLIM SHADY !? @ caution 2.0. never say never [/blockquote]

Harry was laid out along the couch in front of the fire, the warmth washing over him and lulling him into a light daze. The scene he was currently apart of was one that was extremely common in the Gryffindor Common Room. Actually, it was pretty common anywhere in Hogwarts. Ron, Hermione, and himself together doing only Merlin knew what. Today's group activity? Just lounging around the Common Room. He himself was currently reading a book. It wasn't just any book... because Harry Potter wasn't motivated to read something that was just school related. Nope, this was the book that was currently making him the top student in his Potions class. His copy of Potion Making that had previously belonged to the Half-blood Prince.
It wasn't so much that he was reading the book itself; no, he had no reason to read the book itself. What he was more interested in was the writing that was on the book. The cramped writing that was made as class notes. It were these instructions that had pulled him ahead of the class; including Hermione. Of course, Hermione wasn't to pleased with that. Any time she saw the book, she glared at it as if it had said something extremely offense to her. And speaking of which...
“Have you turned in that Potions book yet Harry?”
He felt himself tense at her words. As quietly as he could, he closed the book and stuffed it into the pocket of his robes; thanking Merlin that the book was small enough to fit there. “Hermione,” he began with a sigh, “How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not turning it in. Why would I?” he asked, turning his head to look at her. She was sitting down on the ground, near his midriff.

Unlike his two best friends, Ron sat at the opposite end of Harry and Hermione, engrossing himself in a game of wizard chess. He was playing against the pieces, which could prove to be difficult from time to time, since this was their life. But then again, they barely won against Ron, there was something about wizard chess that Ron always found himself excelling in. But because he was doing everything to avoid books, this just made for another typical trio night. Though he knew Harry wasn't studying either, just reading little notes that the Half-Blood Prince had but in the margins of the book.
This always caused a snarl between the three of them. Hermione was strongly against the book and did everything in her power to try and beat Harry, because when it came to school no one ever bet Hermione. Ron could only smile as he watched his best friend fret over pages and pages of the potions book, her hair beginning to frizz with frustration as Harry sat calm as could be, listening to exactly what the Half-Blood Prince said. Ron was slightly envious now, for he had one the fight for the better potion's book, but it was probably better to get the tattered one. Either way, Harry always helped as he could when Slughorn wasn't keeping a close eye on them.
Ron chuckled from his spot as he heard Hermione casually bring up the book once again, not leaving his eyes from his game. The pieces sometimes cheated when they were loosing, something he was sure his older brother Bill had done to them. Between him and Bill, a chess match could last for days. The Weasley knew better to bother them or try to communicate with them when they were playing. "Knight to G6." Ron mumbled, watching the piece slowly move as he lifted his head. "Hermione, that is probably the best book that could come to Harry and me, and you want to get it confiscated? Blimey, we're actually doing good in potions for once." Ron chuckled, watching as his opponents team moved left of his bishop. STATUS? complete WORDS? 355 TAGGED? harry potter and hermione granger! OUTFIT? gryffindor outfit NOTES? yayayay trio thread! [ It was most definitely one of the very common occurrences around Hogwarts, seeing Harry, Ron, and Hermione together. Ever since their first year after they had rescued her from that troll they had been practically inseparable. Of course, that didn’t mean they didn’t have their fights, and Hermione didn’t get extremely frustrated at her best friends, one of those times being now. She loved them, they were very important to her, but sometimes she just didn’t understand why they did what they did. Perhaps it was because she looked at everything logically and sensibly, not allowing emotions to rule her judgments, and she followed everything to the letter. ”Because, Harry, things were written a certain way for a reason, and you shouldn’t change it. Even if it is helping you get ahead in Potions, which is still cheating by the way. How do you know that it’s not bad? How can you know for a hundred percent certainty that one of those written lines could lead to trouble? You don’t and you should at least give it to Professor McGonagall or Professor Flitwick to check it and be sure. If it’s safe, I’m sure they’ll let you keep it.” she said firmly, giving him a stern look.
When Ron spoke, she shot a glare at him. ”You’re not helping Ron. I’m not trying to get anything confiscated, I just want you to be sure it’s good.” She looked back at Harry, giving him a more curious look this time around. ”Who did it belong to anyhow, before you found it?” There was no harm in asking that question at least, and then she could look up the name and see if there was anything known about them. It might at least clue them in on the person who had written those marks, and their intent. She could have chided Ron on not working on his homework, playing Wizards Chess instead but she chose to ignore that for now. It was good, having the three of them together, something that while common had been more difficult as of late with both her and Ron busy as Prefects, and the higher course load. Hermione was finding herself in the library more than usual, but she had to do good. There was no telling where they would be next year, given what was happening out there. It was a scary thought not having the stability that they had had the previous years, but she would be prepared for whatever life decided to throw them. She had to be, because she knew Harry and Ron certainly wouldn’t.
”I just think we should at least learn a bit more about who had it before you Harry, just in case.” she said, trying to calm the situation but sticking to her objective. ”Can I at least see it? I won’t run off with it, I promise.” she said, holding out her hand to Harry. She wouldn’t take off running with it, she was just curious about what exactly was written in it. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t stick to her belief that they should have an adult look at it, but that was creating more tension then it was worth and they had bigger problems to worry about. She knew Harry still had that connection with Voldemort and it didn’t seem to be getting any better. Yes it bothered her that he was doing better in Potions then her, but they were both part of the Slug Club, as it were, something Hermione wasn’t extremely thrilled about given the fact that they never seemed to do anything useful during their “meetings”, and there was Cormac who seemed to have an eye on her, despite the fact that he had lost to Ron in battling for the Keeper position, something Hermione was pleased she had assisted with. Some rule breaking here and there was necessary from time to time. Dumbledore’s Army had been a prime example. .

If you would have told Harry on his first train ride that the nosy, bushy haired girl he had found annoying would become one of his best friends…. Almost like a sister to him… he would have laughed at you. There was no way someone like that would be able to be friends with him. He and Ron had already agreed on that. But there were only so many things you could do without turning out to be the best of friends; and saving someone from a twelve foot mountain troll was one of them. Mind you, the only thing Harry had on his mind when he went looking for the Girls toilet that night was to warn her of the troll so that she could come with them safely to the Gryffindor Common Room. Instead, Ron and himself has inadvertedly locked the troll in there with her. Harry himself still wasn’t sure how they managed to beat the troll. He supposed it had everything to do with luck; but whatever the reason, they had… and a true bond of friendship had been born.
But that didn’t mean everything was already fine between them. The number of rows they had had amongst themselves, Harry wasn’t sure if he could count on both hands. Of course, it was usually between Ron and Hermione that these fights broke out…. But he and Ron had gotten into one in his fourth year. Thankfully that was their only one, and they hadn’t had one since. Sure, Harry had lost his temper with them the previous year; but it had been a hard one for Harry. He was being attacked from all sides, and sharing emotions with the darkest wizard in the last century was no picnic. He was still subjected to sudden mood swings because of the mysterious link he shared with Voldemort.
A sigh escaped him as he listened to Hermione rant, opening and closing his right hand in a ‘blah, blah blah’ motion; although he was quick to stop it when she turned to glare at him sternly. “The last time you suggested I give something to a Professor to look at, they had it for a few months, and I was facing a Quidditch Match riding an old school broom that as outstripped by butterflies and babies crawling. It’s a book, Hermione. It’s not like it’s telling me go and do anything and everything written in it. When it does, then I’ll start worrying about it.” He said, clearly remembering Tom Riddle’s Diary from his Second Year. But remembering this book also meant remembering Ginny Weasley; because she had had the book longer than he had. So much in fact, that the piece of Tom Riddle’s soul that had been placed inside it, was sucking out her life so that he could come back. Harry had nearly died down in the Chamber of Secrets, and if it had been for Dumbledore’s pet Phoenix, Fawkes, he was sure he would have.
At Remembering Ginny though, his stomach did a series of complicated flips that left him with a tingling feeling in his toes. She had certainly grown a lot since the small little girl with a crush on him. She was brilliant…. Funny, smart, attractive. Merlin was he glad Ron wasn’t a mind reader. He knew he’d be dead for those thoughts! He was so deep in his thoughts about Ginny (and silently plotting ways for her to dump Dean so he could pluck up some courage to ask her out) that he completely missed Hermione’s question about who it belonged to. He was brought back from his mussing thought when she reached out her hand, asking to see it and promising not to run off with it. Harry was up, off the couch, with both hands clamped on his pocket in an instant, backing away from Hermione. “No… the bindings fragile.” He said, saying the first excuse that came to him.

He felt the glare even before it fully hit his face. Hermione's glares were famous, especially to him. More often then not, Ron was at the end of that glare, because something he said. When he was eleven, he actually flinched back, afraid of what could come from it. He was still afraid, but flinch he did not. Her wrath was not something he ever downside, she could be rough and tough when she wanted to be, not to mention she knew more spells then he could even imagine to pronounce. So Ron stayed quite as she moved back to Harry, best not to feed the already burning fire. Harry seemed to be doing a perfect job at that. That lecture she had just given him was prize worthy even. Ron had been too distracted in his game to actually pay attention to it. If the game didn't make any drastic moves, he would have checkmate in only five more moves.
Because frankly, if he had a choice, he'd throw Harry to the angry Hermione any day. He loved his best friend, but seriously, she was force to be reckoned with. Sometimes of course, he loved to fight back with her. This was an odd thing, neither of them could explain it, but the fights between them could be sort of.. fun. But on a today like today, where he had classes all day, all he wanted to do was lie back and relax, play some chess and get through the evening relatively smoothly. But between Harry and Hermione, right now that didn't seem to be an option.
Ron snorted as Harry reminded them of his Quidditch match without his Firebolt, how disastrous that had been. He quickly gave Hermione a apologetic look, because he was sure another glare would be sent in his way. It wasn't his fault that the Firebolt from Sirius was completely fine and not charmed like Hermione thought. He'll never forget how rotted Harry was that he would not be playing on his broom for a game. It was only once, but that one time will be remembered as one of Harry's worst games. He was sure they would be better this year however, he was glad he had been picked over McLaggen for Keeper. He did after all, save ten out of ten goals, which McLaggen saved only nine. And Ginny said she had really tired against him, which pleased Ron further. As Harry jumped off the couch, Ron's concentration from his game moved, looking up between Harry and Hermione, wondering how this would turn out. [ Hermione loved her best friends dearly but sometimes they were so frustrating she didn’t know what to do. It wasn’t like she’d ever hex them or anything , though Ron had pushed her almost to that limit a few times. She supposed it was silly getting into a row over a book but when Hermione firmly believed in something she stuck to it, stubbornly, and it took a great deal of effort to make her think any differently. Yes, she plainly remembered the Firebolt and she flushed slightly. ”Well that was a different matter entirely. I had every reason to believe it could’ve been charmed, and I never said this book was charmed! You can’t expect to wait until something bad happens to warrant doing something about it,” she snapped as she tried to reach for the book. ”And the binding’s hardly fragile, stop making excuses. There’s no harm in checking. You really want to let this end up with something like what happened in our second year again? Do you really want to put anyone in that much danger? Think of what could have been avoided if you had just let someone see that diary first, before leaving it somewhere without a thought, and causing Ginny to nearly die,” she said sharply. She knew she was being harsh but it was the plain simple truth of the matter and she couldn’t understand why Harry wouldn’t see eye to eye with her. Not to mention that Ron was doing nothing to help except sit there and play his chess game. Hermione shot a glare at Ron. ”Are you just going to sit there or do something about this?” she said, waving a hand towards Harry. Perhaps she shouldn’t have put her best friend in that type of situation, causing him to choose between her or Harry in this case, but Hermione was beyond frustrated and none of this was helping. Not to mention that there were other stress factors not even associated with Ron or Harry or this book, and it was like the straw that broke the camel’s back. Hermione crossed her arms over her chest, shooting the glare now at Harry. ”This is silly, just let me see it. You should know better than anyone what the risks are with objects you’re not a hundred percent sure of the source.” She would be as harsh as she needed, and perhaps she’d say things she’d regret later, but at this point she wasn’t really focused on that. Hermione’s main concern was to take a good look at that book, and she wasn’t going to stop until he let her. How many rows had they gotten into over the years? How many times had they fought, been angry with one another, and finally made up in the end? It seemed like a rough friendship but Hermione knew that she wouldn’t trade either of them for anything, even if they frustrated her beyond belief. This was one of those things where she needed to help. It had been the same way during Quidditch try outs when she had sent a charm in McLaggen’s direction, causing him to miss the Quaffle, and help Ron to keep his place as Keeper. She’d do anything for her friends, especially when it meant putting someone as arrogant and disgusting as McLaggen in his place. Of course, the whole Yule party of Slughorn’s hadn’t exactly worked in her favor, causing her to have to dodge McLaggen the entire time, hiding from him as much as she could. It had started out as a way to make Ron jealous and had turned out to be one of the worst ideas she had ever had. Honestly, with everything else going on, this book shouldn’t have had her so riled up but for some reason, it was, and she didn’t know what she could do to convince Harry that they needed to check the book, just to be on the safe side. Credits to: REAL SLIM SHADY !? @ caution 2.0. never say never [/blockquote]
